Shopping District
After the "Shattering" and the beginning of the Community Craft server, a new shopping district needed to be made. The Director of Trade and Commerce, Timmootayy, took the project on. A location just south of Spawn was chosen. As it was the early days of the server and the End was yet to be unlocked, Timmootayy used boats with chests attached to leads to carry large amounts of building materials to the designated area. Within a few days, a uniform area was constructed with approximately 40 plots of similar sizes. These plots were open to the public for players of the server to start building their plots.
On October 12th, 2024, Timmootayy constructed an Ender Dragon skull-themed Nether portal at the Shopping District. This portal commemorated the End Dimension unlocking, as Community Craft players first defeated the Ender Dragon on this day. The platform around the portal was later designed by Katelie. Alongside the help of Kyew and FrogEmi, the platform was quickly finished. The platform showcases the different seasons of the year, one season in each corner.
The Great Draining
As plots began to quickly fill up and space became limited, expansion of the shopping district came into question. Due to its proximity to spawn and nearby player bases, expansions needed to come vertically. A circle with a 171-block diameter was made, and the aim was to drain the ocean underneath to allow for future expansions.
This was a massive project that took many different steps to complete. Firstly, the top 7 layers of water needed to be drained manually in order for water-draining machines to pass without restrictions. Walls of sand and gravel were placed to make the use of sponges easier. Server-wide contributions made this part of the process quick and efficient. Unfortunately, lots of sponges were lost or misplaced while working on this part.
After this was completed, draining machines were built by Timmootayy, Trippy_Daze, and Odin__AllFather. These machines were able to drain huge amounts of water at once. However, these machines were extremely slime- and honey-dependent. Seven different machines were built to completely drain all the remaining water.
Zen_Nedz then constructed TNT duping flying machines to quickly erase large amounts of blocks underneath the Shopping District. Manual mining was needed to destroy the blocks that the TNT was not able to destroy. Finally, the Great Draining was complete, and the new level of the shopping district could begin construction.
The Pokémon Era
A large Snorlax was built in the area drained during "The Great Draining". The Snorlax was turned into a PVP arena and hosted the first-ever PVP event on the server. Noavier came out victorious during this event after defeating Trippy_Daze in the final. The construction of the Snorlax led to a Pokémon-themed style being used around the Shopping District.
A Squirtle was built on the northern side of the Shopping District. This build serves little function except for easy access to the underground area through the use of bubble columns.
Timmootayy stepped down as the Director of Trade and Commerce as they were elected Mayor of Spawn. LouKrimsxn13 was appointed to take over the role. During their time, they redesigned the walls around the Shopping District with the help of ClownGod. LouKrimsxn13 also began construction of the new underground plots.
The Great Cleansing
Due to the high number of entities crammed into a small area, players began to experience low FPS at the shopping district. An order was put out to limit the number of item frames used. However, players still experienced a drop in frames.
A lot of inactive shops were taken down to further combat the number of entities. Today, the shopping district is a shell of what it once was, with only half of the shops still in place.
The New Shopping District
Odin__AllFather and Onikun27 began construction of a new Shopping District approximately 150 blocks northwest of the existing district. This allowed newer players to construct shops without the limits of the original Shopping District. Here, players were not limited to designated plots and were allowed to create shops of whatever size they desired.
Both districts were connected with a pathway. Timmootayy and Kyew constructed a Jigglypuff statue between the districts to commemorate the Pokémon era.
